David McGriffy has been a programmer since the earliest days of the personal computer. He has piloted both radio-controlled and human-carrying aircraft, including gliders of both sorts. He has traveled the world to do failure-mode analyses on the control systems of offshore oil rigs and is an inventor on a patent for a vibration analysis system. He is an expert on website performance and has been published by IEEE on the subject. David runs an audio software company, VVAudio, which produces plugins for surround sound and virtual reality. He has a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Texas at Austin.

This is my essential book for actuarial interviews. Since I have not worked as an actuary for an insurance company before, the book would guide you through the difference types of actuaries, different daily work style, etc. I would say that the 2 editions are fairly similar. The 2nd edition has some updates since there was a major syllabus change in 2007.

The book is a compilation of responses from surveys given to actuaries about their experience in the profession. I was expecting a more thorough exposition of the topics, especially the difference between the two branches.

This book really helped me understand what I needed to do in order to become an Actuary. The resources for exam section is marvelous. Also take a look at all of the companies at the end. This is a great way to start networking.
